GIA - General Intelligence Assessment
Do you want to know that your potential new employee has the mental capability to progress and succeed and whether they are fast track potential?
Aaron Wallis offers GIA or General Intelligence Assessment, which is an online version of TST (Tests for Selection and Training - which are undertaken in a ‘classroom environment’). GIA is a quick (it takes around 40 minutes to complete – 20 minutes of testing and 20 minutes of examples and instruction) and highly validated psychometric aptitude test and published by one of the world’s leading human skills testing organisations, Thomas International. Download a Sample GIA Test Report
GIA measures a person’s raw mental horsepower and gives you an insight into their ability to learn new skills and whether they are quick, accurate or indeed both quick and accurate in their mental calculations. Split into 5 timed tests the resulting reports give you an overview of their abilities in five key areas:
Each individual section is scored as a percentage and compared with 2011 Norm data and compares the candidate as a percentile against the UK working population. (Norm groups to compare against also include ‘Management’ and ‘Graduate’)
The report also gives an overall percentile combining the results of all five tests and is an accurate estimate of your candidate’s general intelligence, reflecting both fluid (increasing and acquiring new knowledge) and crystallised (‘hard wired’ from an early age) intelligence.
The reports are easy to read and understand to know the strengths and limitations of your new employee such as:
-
-
Are they able to accurately think on their feet?
-
Can they be given the autonomy to negotiate without authority?
-
Can they be left to send that important proposal without a second check?
-
Have the mental capacity to learn our wide range of products?
-
Do they have the potential to grow in our business?
-
Is this person a problem solver?
-
Is this person a star of the future?
-
What Does A GIA Report Look Like?
An example GIA report can be downloaded here. Whilst the report contains some great indicators of performance and management suggestions our service also includes a full overview of the report on each candidate by a qualified Thomas International administrator.
How Valid Are GIA Tests?
GIA is probably the most validated and reliable psychometric ability test available in the UK commercial marketplace. It is based upon validation data that is used by the British Army Recruitment Battery (BARB) and the Navy Personnel Series (NPS) as part of their recruitment selection process. A commentary on the history of GIA/TST together with validation data can be downloaded here
