SEO Specialist & SEO Strategist Description

SEO Specialists/Strategists are similar roles are different levels of seniority, the latter being more senior. SEO stands for 'search engine optimization', which is exactly what these roles undertake. SEO specialists analyse web content to see where it could perform better, in order to rank higher in search results - higher search rankings means increased visibility, which in turn means increased traffic. SEO strategists tend to plan the direction and tools campaigns and online touch-points will use, planning how best to optimize content for search rankings. These roles have risen in popularity in recent years due to Google, and similar search engines, becoming more sophisticated in how they analyse web-content - and so there is more demand than ever for these roles. 

With mobile devices making a greater proportion of internet usage, Google is placing greater emphasis on mobile optimization. Because of this, SEO roles put great emphasis on the importance of mobile-friendly content optimization.

SEO Strategist Salaries & SEO Specialist Salaries

SEO specialist roles are based more in analytical and content optimization, whereas SEO strategists manage campaigns and accounts - deciding on the best tools to utilize, these are the more senior roles of the two. SEO specialists can expect to earn anywhere between £21,000-£31,000. SEO strategists can expect to earn upwards of £33,000, easily reaching £45,000+. In big digital companies SEO Directors can earn six figure salaries, this is due to the importance of SEO in certain industries - especially travel and property listings.

What makes a Good SEO Strategist?

SEO algorithms are constantly changing, and so great SEO strategists will be highly vigilant - keeping up to date with current SEO needs. The best candidates will be self-driven and organized, taking time to research changes and tools to stay ahead of the game. SEO requires extensive analysis of content and code, so HTML & CSS knowledge are a bonus and patience and determination are a must.
