Marketing Director Jobs & Recruitment
Marketing Director Description
Marketing Directors oversee the bulk of marketing functions, smaller companies tend to have one marketing director - whereas larger companies may have a director for each region, or business unit. As a marketing director you will most
likely hold a position on the board, and report to COO or other executive level management. Marketing directors determine the brand's output and overall strategy and direction for brand image. The only more senior role tends to be the Chief Marketing Officer.
Marketing directors normally are the main negotiating force with external agencies for the production of marketing materials, as well as having to schedule annual marketing activities and events for networking.
Marketing Director Salaries
According to Glassdoor (2018), as a more senior role, marketing directors earn on average £96,000, with the lowest salaries being around £69,000 and the highest in excess of £139,000. With such big pay packets, and plenty of opportunity for international travel, marketing director roles requires years of senior experience and an expert knowledge on how to plan and deliver campaigns.
What Makes a Good Marketing Director?
Good marketing directors have years of experience, and know the industry inside-out - their intuition is unlikely to fail, and they will be able to plan and lead multiple annual large-scale marketing campaigns. Marketing directors will be able to generate ROI on marketing functions, and will be able to guarantee new customers, converting them to loyal brand followers.
Marketing directors should have strong negotiation skills, and be extremely competent leaders - able to communicate efficiently with multiple senior stakeholders, as well as inspiring their team and driving results. Marketing directors should also have extensive knowledge of all the major tools and platforms used in marketing, and how to optimize them for results. Marketing directors will have tried-and-tested nerves being able to overcome dire situations and ensure brand image is positive, and has reach. There is no field of marketing that a marketing director should be unfamiliar with.
