How to Use Twitter in Sales
Twitter can be used as a great tool for Sales Professionals to find sales and increase pipeline. Start by using basic steps.
5 ways to use Twitter:
-
Research Companies – Do some research on your lead before calling them, find out what their employees and customers are saying about them on Twitter to show you better understand their company and their needs.
-
Keep in touch with Industry News – Stay aware of changes in your lead’s industry by checking into Twitter. Twitter’s real time updates are great for getting big news before it’s published across the web.
-
Best Time to Contact Your Lead – Following your lead on Twitter you can find out when they’re out of the office, travelling or at their desk available to take a call. This doesn’t guarantee they will answer but your chances will certainly increase if they are at their desk.
-
Receive Feedback on Your Pitch – Twitter can give you the opportunity to get honest feedback, having spoken to you on the phone your lead may turn to Twitter “Social Media” to discuss your call.
-
Stay in Touch with Customers that Change Jobs – Using social networks like Twitter can be a great way to stay in touch as they move to new companies and new jobs can create new business opportunities for additional sales.
Find Sales and Fill Your Pipeline Using Twitter - It is always best to start with people that you are already communicating with. Twitter actually makes this very easy to do if you know a few tricks. Start by logging into your Twitter account and go to the “Who to follow” option. Here you can click on the LinkedIn button which will take you to a list of your current LinkedIn connections that have their Twitter accounts connected. Simply select follow all your current connections that you are not currently connected with.
You can also use Gmail. Take your current database (export in CSV form from your CRM) and import it into Gmail. By importing it into Gmail you can then click on the Gmail tab on the Twitter Find Friends tab and connect with your Gmail account. From there Twitter searches your Gmail address book and delivers you a list of all the people that are in your database that are also on Twitter.
You can now start to target companies that you would like to work with. Chances are they are on Twitter as a company or maybe they will have certain employees tasked with using Twitter. A simple Twitter search will let you know who is talking about your industry or company. You can also look at who is following some of your competitors and see if they are also worth following.
Target Titles within the company on Twitter; use Google to identify anyone on Twitter that identifies them with a title. Play around with this search to get even more insights to people you want to connect with within your targeted company.
